Project Overview
This Muncy homeowner came to us because shingles were lifting and coming off her home after the manufacturer acknowledged there was a problem. CertainTeed had extended a reimbursement offer on the defective product, which told her everything she needed to know about starting over.
What she wanted from the next roof was simple to say and harder to deliver: the best of the best, sealed correctly, and no more shingles peeling up in the wind. Sales rep Jon Cataldi walked the property, presented the estimate on site, and the homeowner signed the same day.
A roof this size (80 squares with waste) has a lot of places for wind to find an edge. That was the whole problem with the old system. Once shingles start lifting in a high-wind area, every storm makes it worse, and water follows the opening.
The homeowner's concerns went beyond the shingles themselves:
We also talked through ventilation and condensation and reviewed her options on valley construction, an important conversation to have before tear-off begins.
We tore off the single existing layer of shingles down to the deck and threw it into an Equipter, which keeps debris off the lawn and landscaping throughout the project.
With the deck exposed, we replaced five sheets of standard decking (covered at no cost under our plywood policy) so the new system had sound wood underneath it from the start.
Materials installed:
Gutters were cleaned on completion (as they should always be after a roof replacement!)
The homeowner’s new roof features a wind-rated, impact-resistant shingle, new flashing at every penetration, and fresh flashing for the skylights.
Eighty squares is a long stretch of roof, and this one went on through a stretch of extreme heat. Site Supervisor Trevor Fessler and his team stayed on the job and held our quality standards the whole way through.
The homeowner left a five-star Google review afterward:

“Trevor was very conscientious about doing a great job!! Crew stayed right with the job even in extreme heat.” |
Her roof is covered by the Owens Corning Platinum Protection Limited Warranty, Owens Corning's top-tier system warranty, available only through Platinum Preferred Contractors. It carries a lifetime limited warranty on the shingles with a 50-year non-prorated period on materials, 50 years of workmanship coverage, and includes tear-off and disposal if a covered failure ever occurs.
