Standing Seam Metal Roof & James Hardie Siding Transformation

Overview
This Michigan homeowner came prepared with a photo and a vision, and we loved every bit of it. For their already beautiful home, they wanted a full standing seam metal roof replacement, James Hardie siding on the front and garage, new gutters, and updated soffit and fascia. The home's round radius roof above the front door meant nearly every piece of this project had to be built to fit, meaning our craftsmanship was about to be put to the test.
Luckily, we enjoy a challenge.
The Challenge
The existing shingle roof had a good run, but all things must end, and it was time for replacement. The homeowner didn't just want a straight swap, though. She had an ambitious vision of bringing her home out of its early 2000s aesthetic and into something modern, clean, and, frankly, stunning. Straight from a magazine clipping.
A picture can be worth a thousand words. It can also be incredibly difficult to translate to real life. To top it all off, she wanted to keep all of the work as contained as possible to get the finished look all in one. Getting all of that right, together, was the goal from day one.
The Solution
We started by stripping off the old shingle layer and inspecting the deck underneath. Then, before the metal even touched the roof, we laid two rows of ice and water shield—six feet wide—along every eave. Think of it as a waterproof liner under the whole system, giving the home a layer of protection that works even in the worst winter weather.
From there, we installed:
-
70 squares of 26-gauge textured standing seam metal in Black Crinkle
-
Vapor barrier
-
Synthetic underlayment
-
Vented ridge cap
-
Standing seam snow rails
The radius roof was its own project within a project. Every panel was custom hemmed on-site to follow the curve, and we built and installed a cone at the peak to cap it cleanly.
For the siding, the front of the home and the garage got smooth-finish James Hardie Arctic White panels over 1x3 battens, with white drip edge throughout. The crew worked from her design photo and kept the siding and roofing on the same timeline so everything finished together.
New aluminum soffit and fascia went up across the home, with black James Hardie board soffit on the radius section to complement the custom detail there. All the eaves got new 6-inch Coppertone aluminum gutters, Gutter RX guards, and custom round downspouts built to match the look of the home.
| "We had our roof, siding, gutters, soffits, fascia replaced by Equity Roofing and everything turned out beautifully. Ryan represented the company well with competitive pricing without the high-pressure pitch sales tactic that all other companies do. While there was a bit of a delay in starting/progressing with the project due to weather, the team led by Matt/general manager himself, worked hard to complete the project on time. Metal roof material and everything else were of excellent quality. Workmanship and clean-up were superb. Would highly recommend this company to others.” —Charity Tumangday, Verified Google Review |
The Results
When it was all done, this homeowner had a fully transformed exterior, including: a “forever” standing seam metal roof, custom details that honored her home's unique character, siding that made every detail pop, and gutters that (quite literally) glisten while protecting her home from water damage.
The metal roof is backed by a 25-year workmanship warranty. The siding and gutters are each covered by a 10-year workmanship warranty, and all manufacturer warranty documentation was collected and provided to the homeowner at close-out.
It was an honor to bring this vision to life, and just the kind of project we needed to feel reinspired for homes going forward. Thank you for trusting us with your home, Charity!
