Station Two

What to Expect on Installation Day

You've reviewed your quote, picked out your materials and colors, and signed your agreement. Now our crew will be at your home for the better part of a day, maybe two or three. If you've never done this before, it's fair to wonder what it looks like. Here's installation day at Equity Roofing.

Protection Comes First

We Cover Your Home Before Tear-Off

When the crew arrives, the first order of business isn't the roof. It's everything around it. Tarps go down around your house before anything gets torn off, so these are covered:

  • Your landscaping
  • Your AC units
  • Anything else in the path of falling debris

Built in Order

How Your New Roof Goes On

Once the decking is inspected and cleared, every roof goes on in a specific order, for a reason.

Underlayment

Underlayment goes down first, giving your decking a layer of protection before anything else happens.

Shingles or metal panels

Then your shingles or metal panels go down.

Flashing

Next comes all the flashing around your chimney, pipe boots, and valleys.

Ridge cap and final details

Ridge cap finishes the peak, and the final details bring it all together.

What to Expect

Installation Day, Start to Finish

  1. A heads-up when we're on the way

Just like your inspection, you'll get a notification when the crew is on their way. No wondering whether we're showing up at 6:00 AM or noon.

  2. Tarps go down

Before anything gets torn off, we cover your landscaping, AC units, and anything else in the path of falling debris.

  3. Tear-off

After everything's protected, the tear-off begins. Not every roof gets torn off. Some new roofs, like a metal roof installed over shingles, skip this step entirely.

  4. We inspect your decking

With the old roof off, we finally get to inspect the decking: the wood structure under your roof. Most of the time, it's in acceptable shape and the work keeps moving. Sometimes we find damage, rot, or soft spots from years of moisture coming through a failing roof.

Your agreement already includes a standard amount of decking. Anything beyond that requires your approval and comes with additional cost. Your Site Supervisor will contact you directly and show you photos of what they found and what it'll take to fix it. If you're not home, that conversation happens by phone, and you can approve and sign remotely.

  5. Your new roof goes on

Underlayment, then shingles or metal panels, then flashing, then ridge cap and final details. Every roof goes on in that order.

  6. Photos all day long

You don't have to stand in the yard to know what's going on. The crew takes photos throughout the day, documenting each stage. The good and even the bad gets documented.

  7. A two-pass cleanup

The first pass happens as we go: anything that misses the tarp gets picked up along the way.

The second pass is thorough. A rolling magnet goes across your lawn, driveway, and sidewalks to pick up nails and metal debris. Then your driveway and sidewalks are blown clear, and the magnet goes over them again. If you're not getting new gutters, we'll also clean out your gutters, since they fill with dirt and debris during tear-off.

  8. A final inspection

When the work is done and the cleanup is complete, your Site Supervisor inspects the finished job one last time, verifying that everything in your agreement was completed and that you have photos of the finished product.

If we find anything that isn't right, we either fix it on the spot or, if it needs a trip back, create a punch list ticket so none of those details are missed.

Why we're picky about cleanup: We take the final sweep seriously so you can enjoy your yard and driveway without worrying about your pets or kids stepping on something dangerous.
