What Happens During Your Detailed Roof Inspection
Every Equity Roofing detailed inspection follows the same consistent process. Here's exactly what happens in 10 steps, so you know what to expect from start to finish.
Why We Check the Attic
We Look Where Others Don't
Some roofers skip the attic, but we don't. The attic shows us things that are impossible to see from outside. Your roofer will put on boot covers and check for:
- Proper ventilation, intake and exhaust
- Sheathing: is it gapped or solid?
- Any leaks that are obvious from inside
On Your Roof
What We Look For
Your roofer spends about 30 minutes on the roof and takes 30 or more annotated photos, so you can see what we're seeing.
Granule loss
Granules protect your shingles from UV damage. When they wear away, the shingle underneath starts to break down.
Cracked, curled, or lifted shingles
Shingles that have cracked, curled, or come unsealed can't shed water the way they should.
Popped or exposed nails
Nails that have backed out or were left exposed, like on a ridge vent, can let water in.
Flashing, vents, and protrusions
We check the flashing, vents, and anything else that comes through your roof, along with anything unique or unusual about it.
Age, condition, and storm damage
Finally, we look at the overall condition and age of your roof and check for signs of storm damage, like past hail.
What to Expect
Your Inspection in 10 Steps
- 1
We let you know we're on our way
Your roofer notifies you through our app when they're headed to your home.
- 2
A proper introduction
When your roofer arrives, they'll knock on your door, introduce themselves, hand you a business card, and give you a rundown of what to expect.
- 3
A walk around your home
Before getting on the roof, your roofer walks the perimeter of your home. This gives them a clear look at your gutters, the slopes, and anything else that might factor into what they find on the roof.
- 4
The attic inspection
Your roofer checks your attic for ventilation, sheathing, and leaks. It shows us things that are impossible to see from outside.
- 5
Safety first
Before setting foot on your roof, your roofer takes safety precautions. Whenever possible, we tie off our ladder at the gutter edge and extend it at least three feet above the roof line. If the roof is too steep or conditions are unsafe, your roofer will inspect it with a drone instead.
- 6
Up on the roof
Once the walkaround and safety setup are done, your roofer heads up on the roof. This part takes about 30 minutes.
- 7
30+ annotated photos
While on the roof, your roofer takes 30 or more annotated photos, so you can see exactly what we're seeing.
- 8
A video of what we found
Before getting off your roof, your roofer records a video walking you through what they found during your inspection.
- 9
Your report and proposal
After the inspection, your roofer spends some time in the truck putting together your full inspection report and proposal. Feel free to go about your day while we work.
- 10
