Protecting Your Home From Top to Bottom
Williamsport's lumber-era homes have character newer neighborhoods can't match. They also have roofs that have weathered decades of Susquehanna Valley thunderstorms, hail, and freeze-thaw winters, often with layers of old shingles and aging decking underneath.
Median Year Built
About half of Williamsport homes were built before 1940. Older homes often hide worn decking, layered roofs, and tired flashing that only an inspection will uncover.
Historic Buildings on Millionaire's Row
The Millionaire's Row Historic District includes 263 contributing buildings, some dating to 1855. Roofs like these need a contractor who respects the original design.
Microburst Winds in Lycoming County
In 2016, straight-line winds of 90-100 mph brought trees down on homes in nearby Muncy. Local storm warnings regularly call for 60 mph gusts and hail.

Yes. Equity Roofing has replaced roofs on historic homes across Central PA, including a 250-year-old mansion in Sunbury and a 1792 stone house in Northumberland.
On historic projects, we preserve original framing wherever we can, match the roof system to the home's character, and protect attics and landscaping during tear-off. See more of our work on our case studies page.
Asphalt shingles are the most common roof on Williamsport homes, as they are across Pennsylvania. Because about half of the city's homes were built before 1940, you'll also find metal and slate on some older homes, especially in the historic district.
Equity Roofing installs every line of Owens Corning shingles, plus standing seam and exposed-fastener metal roofs for homeowners who want a more durable alternative.
Sometimes, but matching is getting harder. 3-tab shingle production is down 68 percent in the past five years, and in 2024 a matching 3-tab shingle wasn't available on the open market for 54% of insurance claims, up from 17 percent in 2020.
Our 10-step inspection will show you, with photos and video, whether a repair makes sense or a replacement is the better investment.
We list ranges for all of our services on our price page.
Equity Roofing’s prices are right in line with what’s typical for quality roofing in Central PA, Northern Indiana, and Southern Michigan.
Most of our shingle roof replacements fall between $12,800 and $45,100+, and metal roofs between $13,600 and $92,800+, depending on roof size, pitch, and materials.
Our quotes include everything needed for a long-lasting roof: full tear-offs, new flashing, proper ventilation, and manufacturer-backed warranties.
Equity Roofing isn’t the cheapest or the most expensive—we aim to be the most transparent and trustworthy, giving homeowners real value for a roof built to last.

The train in the Equity Roofing logo is a homage to our Mifflinburg office, which was once an old train station from the 1870s!
When we renovated the building for our office, we wanted to preserve as much of the history as possible, maintaining the architecture of the original structure and reviving the depot's timeless silhouette.
We’re so grateful to the Union County community for welcoming us into their neighborhoods and allowing us to be part of their history.
Older than most. The median Williamsport home was built in 1938, and about 52% of homes were built before 1940. Many have had several roofs over the years, sometimes layered on top of each other, with original decking underneath.
If you don't know your roof's age or what's under it, an inspection is the easiest way to find out where it stands.
Snow, ice dams, and freeze-thaw cycles are the main culprits behind winter roof damage. Water that melts and refreezes at the roof edge can back up under shingles and cause leaks inside your home.
Older homes are especially prone to ice dams because many were built before modern attic ventilation. Proper ventilation and sound flashing are the best defenses.
Williamsport homeowners are served by our Central PA office at 390 Mulberry St, Mifflinburg. You can reach the team at (570) 218-5683, and a Customer Success Manager will get back to you within one business day.
